Privacy Policy

Last updated: 11 July 2026

This policy explains how Pattern Type handles your personal information. We aim to be plain-spoken about it. If anything is unclear, email us at team@yousufaslam.com and we will answer properly.

Who we are and who is responsible

Pattern Type is operated by Yousuf Aslam Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales. Company number: 16804539. Registered office: 124 City Road, London, EC1V 2NX. Yousuf Aslam Ltd is the data controller for the personal information described in this policy. For any privacy question or request, contact team@yousufaslam.com.

What we collect

  • Contact details. For your free reading, your first name and email address. If you buy the Deep Report, we also ask for the name and billing details required for payment.
  • Your assessment answers. Your responses about your upbringing, your family and how things felt to you as a child, together with the pattern and reading we derive from them.
  • Payment information. Handled directly by our payment processor, Stripe. We do not see or store your full card details.
  • Usage information. Basic technical information about how you use the site (for example, which step of the assessment you are on, and simple attribution such as where a visit came from), used to keep the service working, secure and improving.

Special care about your answers

Some of what you tell us in the assessment is personal in a way that deserves extra care: it touches on your childhood, your relationships with the people who raised you, and how safe or seen you felt. We treat these answers with real seriousness. We use them only to generate the reading and, if you buy it, the Deep Map you have asked for. We do not use them to train third-party AI models, we do not sell them, and we do not share them for marketing.

How we use your information and our lawful bases

  • To provide the service you asked for. Generating and delivering your reading, taking payment for the Deep Map, sending your receipt, and answering support questions. Lawful basis: performance of our contract with you.
  • Free-tier marketing emails. If you take the free reading and tick the optional consent box, we may send you occasional emails about our work. Lawful basis: your consent. You can withdraw it at any time using the unsubscribe link in any email.
  • Customer communications after a purchase. If you have bought from us, we may email you about our own similar products and services under the soft opt-in in the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations. Every such message includes a clear, free way to opt out. Lawful basis: our legitimate interests in keeping our customers informed, balanced against your rights.
  • Keeping the service secure and improving it. Lawful basis: our legitimate interests in running a safe, working service.
  • Meeting legal, accounting and tax obligations. Lawful basis: legal obligation.

Who processes your data for us

We use a small set of trusted providers who process personal data on our behalf, under written data-processing terms, and only on our instructions:

  • Stripe for payments.
  • OpenAI to generate your reading and Deep Map from your answers. Under its business API terms, your inputs are not used to train its models.
  • Resend to send transactional and (where you have consented) marketing emails.
  • Supabase and Lovable for hosting, database and application infrastructure.

We do not sell your personal information to anyone, ever.

International transfers

Some of the providers above may process data outside the UK, including in the United States and the European Economic Area. Where they do, we rely on appropriate safeguards recognised under UK data protection law, such as the UK International Data Transfer Addendum to the EU Standard Contractual Clauses, or transfers to countries covered by a UK adequacy decision.

How long we keep it

We keep your assessment answers and reading for as long as needed to provide the service, to let you come back to your result, and to meet our legal and accounting obligations, and then we delete or anonymise them. Payment records are kept for the period required by UK tax law. You can ask us to delete your data sooner and we will, unless we are legally required to keep it.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR you have the right to access the personal data we hold about you, ask us to correct it, ask us to delete it, restrict or object to our use of it, ask for portability of the data you have provided, and withdraw any consent you have given. To exercise any of these, email team@yousufaslam.com. We will respond within one month. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk, though we would welcome the chance to help first.

Pattern Type is intended for adults aged 18 and over. It is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18.

Changes

We may update this policy. If we do, we will change the "Last updated" date above and, where the change is material, tell you.
